The city of Hamburg in Germany is made up of seven boroughs: Altona, Bergedorf, Eimsbüttel, Hamburg-Mitte, Hamburg-Nord, Harburg und Wandsbek, and subdivided into 104 quarters. Most of the quarters were former independent settlements. The Elbe River originates in the Giant Mountains in the Czech Republic, it then flows through Germany, passing through the cities of Dresden, Magdeburg, Lauenburg, and Hamburg, among others, before finally flowing into the North Sea near Cuxhaven.
