Postcard Die Hoffnung, Gustav Klimt

Gustav Klimt is the most important painter and illustrator of Viennese Jugendstil (Art Nouveau), which developed towards the end of the 19th century from a departure from academic painting traditions in favor of a freer, often erotically tinged, decorative aestheticism. As a teacher of Oskar Kokoschka and Egon Schiele, Klimt immensely influenced the development of 20th-century visual art.
